Calculation Of The Claim

  • The amount of the refund varies according to the three following parameters:
    1. The date of the last Student Loan Contract;
    2. The date the Member completed or abandoned his/her studies;
    3. The total amount of the student loan at the time of completion or abandonment of his/her studies.
  • The amount of the refund is automatically calculated by software on the Aide financière aux études web site unless one or more of the above parameters is not in the Member's file in which case the Member will be required to furnish the missing information.
  • The amounts of the refunds are as follows:
    Date of the last student loan Date of completion of studies Amount of the refund
    Prior to June 30, 1997 Prior to June 30, 1997 $0
    Prior to June 30, 1997 Between July 1st, 1997 and April 30,1998 1 month of interest
    Prior to June 30, 1997 After April 30, 1998 7 months of interest
    Between July 1st, 1997 and April 30,1998 After April 30, 1998 6 months of interest
    After April 30, 1998 After April 30, 1998 0$
  • The amount of interest improperly charged to the Member during the exemption period bears interest at the legal rate of 5%, plus the additional indemnity provided for by law for the period from June 10th, 1999 to the date the claim is filed.
  • The amount of the refund is reduced as follows:
    1. A charge of 20% plus taxes to pay for the class action attorneys' fees; and
    2. A charge of 2% payable to the Fonds d'aide aux recours collectif.

Permanent code
