The claims process
To receive a refund of interest charged contrary to the Student Loan Contract
A person who believes that he/she is a Member (see the page «Who are the persons involved») must file a claim for a refund on line with the Aide financière aux études by no later than June 1st 2009, as follows :
- Access the Aide financière aux études Website at: www.afe.gouv.qc.ca;
- Open a session under the heading « On-line Access to your file »;
- Choose the option « Class Action - Student Loans 1997-1998 »;
- Complete the information required to identify the Member;
- Type in the Permanent code (indicated on the individualized notice received by mail or on the Student Loan Contract or related documents) and password, as directed on the Website;
- The right to a refund and the amount of the refund, will then appear on the screen. If information is missing from the file, the Member must authorize an agent of l'Aide financière aux études to complete the claim;
- To accept the amount of the refund appearing on the screen, click where indicated;
- If the amount appearing on the screen is accepted, a cheque will be forwarded by mail to the Member within a few days;
- If the Member wishes to contest his/her inadmissibility or the amount of the refund, the Member must follow the instructions to complete a request for review. (Certain documents must then be provided);
- If the Member is dissatisfied with the result of the review, he/she may then file a judicial contestation of the decision;
